Historical back ground:

GHFRD was formed in June 1996, though active work began in the year 2000 with an overall aim of promoting human rights and sustainable livelihood development by creating education awareness and support for advocacy strategies, relevant to specific needs to the rural communities in Kasese District, through involvement of these communities in identifying their social, economic and political situation in Kasese and the Rwenzori region in General.

It was founded by six persons who had trained in various fields, namely as social workers, legal aid officers, and as children rights activists. They realized the need to have interventions in marital violence that was forcing children out of their homes to become street children in nearby urban centers.
